     On September 15 local time, Vice Premier Liu Yandong met in in Brussels with Vice-President of the European Commission Kristalina Georgieva.
     Liu Yandong noted that President Xi Jinping attaches great importance to China-EU relations and the China-EU High-Level People-to-People Dialogue Mechanism, and as this year marks the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the EU, the China-EU relationship is standing at the new historical starting point and embraces new and important development opportunities. She wished a complete success of the meeting, which is of great significance for the four major partnerships between China and the EU featuring peace, growth, reform and civilization. During Premier Li Keqiang's visit to the EU in this June, he stressed that people-to-people and cultural exchanges constitute an important pillar of China-EU cooperation and hoped both sides bring the guiding role of the mechanism into full play to constantly cement the social basis of the stable and healthy development of China-EU relations. Liu Yandong hoped that this meeting could help China and the EU to work together to consolidate and develop the China-EU High-Level People-to-People Dialogue Mechanism, so as to push the China-EU people-to-people and cultural exchanges to new highs and make new contributions to the construction of China-EU partnership of civilization.

     Kristalina Georgieva expressed that President Jean-Claude Juncker of European Commission and President Donald Tusk of the European Council asked her to convey their greetings to Vice Premier Liu Yandong and their wishes for the success of the meeting. The EU is satisfied with the results scored in the EU-China High-Level People-to-People Dialogue Mechanism and believes that the people-to-people and cultural exchanges, as one of the three pillars in the development of EU-China relations, plays a more and more important role. The EU attaches importance to and will continue devoting to the construction of the EU-China High-Level People-to-People Dialogue Mechanism.
